I have Manoj Batra with us to share his RPA experience…
It’s my pleasure to have him here and would like to thank him for sharing his amazing journey… 🙂

Here is a short Bio:
My self Manoj Batra. Currently, I am associated with RBS as AVP – RPA based in the Delhi office. It has been more than a decade since I joined this IT industry. I started my career in windows programming using .net. After that, I moved into full-stack development and worked many front-end and back-end technologies like Asp.net, Asp.net MVC, REST, SOAP, Angular, React, Jquery, SQL, Oracle, Python, Hadoop, Java, Selenium, Mongo, Azure, Cognitive, etc.
I love playing cricket and chess and believe in this simple quote “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Til your good is better and your better is best.“
I prefer to spend my free time with my daughter & family. Apart from that, I explore new tools and technologies in my leisure time which helps me to solve the problems we face in day to day life.
Small Talk
Sharath Raju:
We would like to know about your RPA journey?
Manoj Batra:
It started with a sprint planning call with the client. The client told us to extract data from different websites and generate a comparison report based on given parameters value.
Initially, we proposed two solutions for this. One with C# and other with using selenium as I was working as a full-stack developer at that time.
He told us to do that stuff with RPA and at that time we were unaware of this term. So, he gave us two tools AA and UIPath to do our research and
UIPath was the winner of that POC(don’t know about the judging parameters). So, I started my journey with web automation and till now I’ve worked on different types of automation that include windows, excel, RDPs, Image, Citrix, VBA, etc.
I’ve been a part of many automation teams and found my self lucky to work on multiple profiles like process analysis, solution designing, setting up infrastructure, coding, delivery, support. Overall, It has been a satisfying journey till now. I have learned a lot during this period.
Sharath Raju:
What was your project about in the hackathon?
Manoj Batra:
I participated in two powerup automation hackathons, One in Delhi(July-2019) and another one in Pune(Aug-2019).-In Delhi Hackathon, we won a prize in “automation for enterprise category”. I discussed the idea with my team and they all agreed to build this for hack.we created a chatbot in skype which in turn calls the UIPath jobs by using orchestrator API based on the message entered by the user. For language processing, we leverage the capabilities of Microsoft Language Understanding and Intelligent System(LUIS) from MS Azure cloud services.
We initially targeted the healthcare industry for this. By using this, the doctor can get can patient report in real-time on his mobile without any hassle in PDF format and we built one more intelligent feature into this system which scans the report in the backend and sends some more useful information to the doctor like nearest blood bank based on the blood group in the report and a list of ambulances available in the patient area.
-For Pune, the domain was same(healthcare) but the category was different. This time we participated in “automation for a cause” category and won a prize there as well. In Pune hack, we created an epic that can be used for the initial analysis of human diseases. we chose two diseases that can be diagnosed at early stages. First disease was related to mental health and second was a progressive nervous disorder system.
We built a machine learning system using python and its supporting libraries along with UIPath which gives output in image format which works as a recommender model for doctors/technicians. This improves the response time of diagnosis and doctors can prioritize which patient should be treated first on an emergency basis.
Sharath Raju:
What would be your advice for someone who is planning to participate in future hackathons?
Manoj Batra:
Since hackathons are time-bound and everything needs to be quick and perfect. So, I would suggest a few things here
- Always prepare your idea, tools, technology selection well before hack.
- Your preparation should include a plan B(backup plan).
- Use Reverse Planning Methodology, When you plan in reverse, you start with your end goal and then work your way backwards from there to develop a plan of action.
- Focus more on the influential(WOW) factors of your idea and try to finish those first.
- Your presentation is the most important aspect here and It should be clear and concise. Break it into parts(short story, WOW factors, future enhancements). Always end your presentation before the time for Questions/Answers.
Sharath Raju:
What are your future aspirations?
Manoj Batra:
As it can clearly be seen from my above hack ideas, I’d like to do something related to healthcare.
I am doing some research in the same using Mixed Reality (Augmented reality + Virtual reality) and RPA which will help medical practitioners in their treatment in an effective way. In addition to this, I am also planning to do some certification on machine learning and artificial intelligence in near future.
Sharath Raju:
We would like to hear about the future of RPA from you…
Manoj Batra:
The future of RPA seems quite bright. Organizations are moving towards Hyperautomation(RPA + AI/ML/Analytics/AR/VR/NLP/Chatbots+…) to make automation more intelligent. To be in the race, One has to adopt Hyperautomation. It can be considered as the beginning of a new beginning and will change the future of automation.
We have just entered this era and there is still a lot of work to do which means lots of opportunities are coming your way 🙂
You can connect with Manoj Batra, he is always happy to help 🙂
I hope you enjoyed the post!!!
And if you think you or your management has some thoughts on RPA that you would like to share with the hundreds and thousands of people out there and be helpful…
Let’s have a small talk 🙂
