How To Insert A Watermark In Excel – A Complete Guide

Most often you might have come across documents which contain watermarks similar to Draft, Sample, Confidential and few brand logos etc.

They are the ways to let people know the document status and few times just to put up your brand all over.

1. How to Create a watermark

Sometimes times you might want to create a watermark instead of using an existing picture.

Let see how can we take that here

Step 1: In a blank sheet navigate to
Insert tab
    Text group
         WordArt icon

Now select the desired text formatting.

Step 2: Now Fill the Text Editor with desired text and select copy option by right-clicking on the border of the Text editor.

Step 3: Then copy it to a Windows Paint and resize it to your required size
and finally, save it as .png or .gif

2. How to Insert a watermark into the document

Now as we are done with creating the watermark, Let us look at how to embed it into the worksheet.

Step 1: In a blank sheet navigate to
Insert tab
    Text group
         Header & Footer icon

Step 2: Now the view will be changed to Page layout view
Under the Design tab, select Picture icon available in Headers & Footers group.

Step 3: Now choose the file that you want to upload.

Step 4: Once you upload the picture, you be will able to see code like &[Picture], which indicates that the picture has been uploaded successfully.

Step 5: Finally to see the applied watermark, just click on a cell outside the header to focus out and you are done.

Note: In case if you want to adjust the position of the watermark, you can just add new line .i.e type Enters in front of &[Picture] as shown below

3. How to Remove the watermark from excel

Removing the watermark that we have just inserted or any other existing one is quite an easy task to do.

Step 1: Open the worksheet for which you want to remove the watermark and then navigate to

Insert tab
    Text group
         Header & Footer icon

Step 2: In the Header section, just select the entire text and delete it.

Step 3: To apply the changes just click on a cell outside the header to focus out and you are done.
