There might be situations where you need to keep a note of the number of pages.
Inserting page numbers in worksheets can help you with that.

Various possible operations are

1. Insert page numbers on a single worksheet
Inserting page numbers can be done on a single worksheet and on multiple worksheets based on our requirement.
Let us do it for single worksheet first…
Step 1: Select the worksheet to which you want to insert page numbers
Step 2: On the Insert tab, Text Group, click Header & Footer
OR
Directly click on Pay Layout View button at the right bottom beside the zoom scroll bar.
By now, you must be in Page Layout View
Step 3: Now then first click on Add Header/Add Footer and select Design Tab to display Header & Footer Tools
Note: You have a choice to place the page numbers at  Left section, Center section, or Right section box of the header or footer.
Step 4: In the header & Footer Elements group, select the Page Number button
The &[Page] text will be added to the Header/Footer as per the choice
If you want to add the total count also, then just add &[Pages] to the text above or just click on Number of Pages button.
Step 5: Now just click somewhere in the body of the Excel to come out of the edit mode and its done.
Note: In case you want to exit from the Pay Layout View, just click on Normal View
2. Insert page numbers in multiple worksheets
Step 1: Select all the worksheets that you want
Step 2: On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher
Step 3: In the Page Setup window, on the Header/Footer tab, click the Custom Header/Custom Footer based on your choice.
Step 4: select the Page Number button
The &[Page] text will be added to the Header/Footer as per the choice
If you want to add the total count also, then just add &[Pages] to the text above or just click on Number of Pages button.
Finally, click on “Ok”
Note: You have a choice to place the page numbers at  Left section, Center section, or Right section box of the header or footer.
3. How to set the starting page number
We have the full control on the starting page number and it can come handy in many of the situations too.
Step 1: Click Page Layout tab, then in  Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher
Step 2: Select Page tab, and then change the First Page Number value from Auto to some desired numeric value and finally click “Ok”
4. Removing the page numbers from worksheets
Sometimes you may want to delete the page numbers that you or someone else has put into the worksheets.
Just a few steps and its done…
Step 1: Select the worksheets for which you wish to remove the page numbers
Step 2: In the Page Setup window, on the Header/Footer tab, select the drop-down list under Header/Footer label based on your choice and set the (none) value from the list and click “Ok”.
